A very interesting iron die for a Byzantine imitative follis
Lot 4088
ISLAMIC, Anatolia & al-Jazira (Post-Seljuk). Artuqids (Mardin). AH 6th-7th centuries / AD 12th-13th centuries. Die (Iron, 31 mm, 136.00 g), a reverse die of a contemporary imitation of an Artuqid dirham (perhaps of an issue of Qutb al-Din il-Ghazi II). Blundered Kufic legend in five lines; in outer margin, pelleted border. Cf. Spengler & Sayles 31.1 (for possible prototype). A very interesting object. Very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.
